Join our Wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency (wCBDC) team in the Directorate General Digital Euro and help shape the future of digital finance.

Our focus is on the design, development and overarching coordination of IT security concepts for complex IT systems. We assess security risks and new security technologies, define technical and organisational security requirements and support their implementation in development, infrastructure and architecture projects.

Actively shape the financial market infrastructure of the future and use your expertise to help develop the digital euro and innovative DLT-based solutions.

• Designing and managing the IT security architecture for a wCBDC and developing robust security concepts, strategies and standards for the development and future operation of highly available, security-critical financial market infrastructure.
• Consistently assessing architecture and design decisions from a security perspective, taking into account information security, resilience, compliance, and technical risks. Coordinating security-related issues across development, infrastructure and business units and ensuring consistent integration of security requirements into the overall architecture.
• Representing the Deutsche Bundesbank’s security interests within the international project and – alongside the European Central Bank, participating central banks and other project partners – making overarching technical decisions and shaping the further development of the wCBDC security architecture. Actively contributing your expertise to international working groups and bodies.
• Developing a sound foundation for decision-making in general and strategic management, supporting governance and ensuring the structured preparation of security-relevant work packages as part of the international project.
• Ensuring compliance with the Eurosystem’s regulatory and security requirements and bearing the responsibility for security compliance reviews and the assessment and implementation of relevant requirements.
• Observing and assessing technological developments in the area of IT security in terms of their potential applications for wCBDC and, in particular, bringing modern cryptography and distributed ledger technologies into the ongoing development of the security architecture.

Special values: your qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent degree in a STEM subject
• At least 2 years of professional experience in the development and evaluation of complex IT security architectures
• Very good command of English and good command of German

In addition, we would welcome:

• Very strong knowledge of IT security architectures as well as the design and implementation of security measures for complex IT systems
• Very strong knowledge of modern IT infrastructure, networks and operating systems as well as in the areas of application development and system integration
• Very strong knowledge in the area of IT security technologies, authentication and authorisation procedures and cryptographic procedures and their use in highly critical IT systems, supported by CISSP/CISM certificates, supported by practical experience
• A very good understanding of the interplay between technology, security requirements, risk scenarios and regulatory requirements when developing complex IT solutions
• Very good knowledge of the assessment and implementation of regulatory requirements as well as IT governance and compliance requirements, ideally in the context of critical financial market infrastructure or the Eurosystem
• Knowledge of distributed ledger technology and modern blockchain architectures
• Knowledge relating to analysing and assessing security-related aspects of smart contracts
• Strong analytical and conceptual thinking
• Ability to work independently and in a structured manner
